Lawrence ‘Pops’ Dopson is the co founder of Labren Recording Studios, home of 1500 Or Nothin’, the American music ensemble composed of Record Producers, Songwriters, & Musicians. Before moving to Culver City California as a prominent singer-songwriter/producer/musician, Lawrence’s Professional Music Entertainment career originated back in Chicago, Illinois,1968. He was a member of the group called ‘The 5 Wagers’. The group co-stared for many major acts coming through the city, such as Al Green, Emotions, Earth Wind and Fire, & Jerry Butler. Lawrence remained w the group throughout 1968 -1978, but in 1976, due to a shift in the genre of disco music, many of the night clubs had converted into dance clubs, as opposed to performance clubs, which persuaded him to leave Chicago and move to LA where he met Smokey Robinson. Smokey quickly became the catalyst who maneuvered him through the industry. Since then, he’s done production on Smokey Robinson’s material, as well as Barry White, The Temptations, Michael Jackson and Ben Wright. Most recently, Lawrence has scored and produced the theme to the audio series “Bronzeville”, to be newly released 2017.
