LARENZ TATE, LAURENCE FISHBURNE TO HOST PODCAST
These actors are making their voices heard about a memorable time in Chicago’s history…
BY CHAN C. SMITH
Actors Larenz Tate and Laurence Fishburne are teaming up to launch a new, 10-part audio podcast. The name of the show is Bronzeville and will be based on Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood in the 1940s.
At a time where Chicago was booming with Black-owned businesses and tight-knit communities, Tate and Fishburne look to revive and relive the era where Black people were prominent entrepreneurs and policy makers. The original screenplay, written by Josh Olsen, follows the most impactful playmakers and the illegal lottery in the Black community that eventually was taken over by the mafia.
Fishburne and Tate will also play a part in the series, not only as directors and producers, but also as part of number of notable voices in the cast alongside actors such as Tika Sumpter, and Lance Reddick.
The 10-part audio series also includes the talents of Tracee Ellis Ross, Cory Hardict, Wood Harris, Omari Hardwick, Brittany Snow, and Lahmard Tate.
Audio HQ, the digital audio ad sales company, partnered with Fishburne’s Cinema Gypsy Productions and Tate’s TateMen Entertainment to push the project, and EBONY’s #FastForward alum, attorney Nina Shaw, on board as one of the reps for the production.
Bronzeville will be available every Tuesday beginning February 7. The episodes will be free of charge, on iTunes, Spotify, TuneIn, Radio One/Interactive One and SoundCloud.
