TIKA SUMPTER

Tika Sumpter is one of Hollywood’s rising stars. She is best known for her portrayal of “Candace Young” on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network’s “The Haves and the Have Nots.” The one hour drama written, directed and produced by Tyler Perry will return for its fifth season in January 2017.
Tika was most recently seen in Roadside Attractions’ Sundance Film Festival hit Southside With You opposite Parker Sawyers. Sumpter plays Michelle Robinson and also serves as a producer on the film, which chronicles the summer of 1989 afternoon when the future President of the United States, Barack Obama, wooed his future First Lady on an epic first date across Chicago’s South Side.
It was recently announced that Tika will star and co-executive produce “The 313” for CBS. The drama will follow when a sex scandal brings down the current Detroit city administration and a female City Council President suddenly becomes the Mayor and has to contend with all the obstacles that come with the job.
Tika got her start as “Layla Williamson” on the Daytime Emmy winning soap opera “ONE LIFE TO LIVE,” which garnered her a NAACP Image Award nomination. She is also known for playing “Raina Thorpe” on “Gossip Girl.”
Past film credits include HBO’s Emmy winning miniseries Bessie, Get On Up, Ride Along 2, Ride Along, Sparkle opposite Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks, Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas, My Man Is A Loser , What’s Your Number, Salt, Stomp The Yard 2: Homecoming and Whisper Me A Lullaby. Her past television credits include “Being Mary Jane,” “The Game” and “Law And Order: SVU.”
Tika is proud of her involvement in Public Service Announcements appearing in an AIDS-awareness campaign with acclaimed hip-hop artist Common.
Native of New York, Tika currently resides in Los Angeles.
