TIKA SUMPTER

As an accomplished actor and producer, Tika Sumpter is quickly establishing herself as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after multihyphenates. She most recently sold her feature THE ANCESTOR – a psychological thriller which she co-conceived with writer Kay Oyegun, will co-produce with Michael B. Jordan‘s Outlier Society, and will star in – to HBO Max.
Sumpter stars on top-rated ABC comedy series MIXED-ISH, the heartfelt spinoff of BLACK-ISH, where she plays “Alicia Johnson” opposite Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Gary Cole. Additionally, Sumpter can be heard as the voice of “Quinn” on the hit TBS animated series FINAL SPACE alongside Fred Armisen and David Tennant.
On film, Sumpter most recently starred in Paramount Pictures’ SONIC THE HEDGEHOG as “Annie Wachowski” alongside James Marsden and Jim Carrey. The film released on February 14th, breaking opening weekend records as the biggest inaugural showing ever for a video game adaptation. Previously, Sumpter starred opposite Robert Redford, Casey Affleck, Danny Glover, and Sissy Spacek in David Lowery’s THE OLD MAN AND THE GUN, which premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. In 2016, Sumpter received critical praise for her “spot-on performance” (Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter) as a young Michelle Obama in Miramax’s feature film SOUTHSIDE WITH YOU, which Sumpter co-produced with John Legend. The film, inspired by Barack and Michelle Obama’s first summer date, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival that year to a standing ovation and went on to receive rave reviews.
Other feature credits include Universal’s award-winning James Brown biopic GET ON UP alongside Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Chadwick Boseman; IFC’S AN ACCEPTABLE LOSS, opposite Jamie Lee Curtis; Universal’s hit action comedy franchise RIDE ALONG, opposite Kevin Hart and Ice Cube; Paramount Picture’s NOBODY’S FOOL opposite Tiffany Haddish, Whoopi Goldberg and Omari Hardwick. Sumpter co-starred with Queen Latifah in HBO’s BESSIE, which won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Television Movie.
Additional television credits include the CW’s GOSSIP GIRL, BET’s THE GAME and the Daytime Emmy-award winning soap opera, ONE LIFE TO LIVE, which garnered her an NAACP Image Award nomination.
